My experience with... La Mer ♡

La Mer has always been a skincare brand that I am extremely fascinated about - mostly because of its crazy price-point and its popularity within celebrities like Mariah Carey and Halle Berry. I recently had the opportunity to try out two La Mer products courtesy of my boyfriend (bf's mom is a La Mer fanatic and so the bf always has La Mer products lying around in his dorm bathroom cabinet which he does not even care for LOL) and I thought it would be interesting to share my views on these products and whether I think they are suitable for someone my age. :)

The first product that I tried out is the Refining Facial, a face exfoliator to be used once or twice every week. This product has a mud-like consistency and consists of pure diamond powder which is supposed to stimulate blood circulation in the face area and rejuvenate your skin. I personally do love this product because even though I have dry skin, this product does not make me feel as if moisture is being stripped off my face like a lot of other exfoliators do, while still giving me that amazing feeling of a clean and fresh exfoliated face. Another thing I love about this product is that I can tell right away my skin is looking brighter and more radiant after I have finished exfoliating. I have used this product on blemishes and active pimples before as well but this exfoliator has not irritated them in any way. I would recommend this product to anyone who does not mind spending a lot of money on their skincare products and I think this exfoliator is going to work well for all skin types. ♡

The second product that I tried out has become one of my favourite - if not my favourite skincare product of all time. The La Mer lip balm is definitely the best lip balm that I have ever tried. I find that this lip balm works a lot better than some other high end lip balms (such as the Dior Creme de Rose and the Chanel hydramax + active lip care) both texture-wise and moisture-wise. This product has a minty scent to it and actually tastes pretty good if you happen to lick your lips (which I do all the time!) while having the lip balm on. The texture is thick and is a little bit greasy when applied to the lips but is not sticky at all. Moisture-wise, this product is amazing - this lip balm sinks into your lips really fast and gives almost an instant relief to cracked/ dry lips, especially with its minty scent. I would recommend this product to anyone. I know £42 is really REALLY pricey for a lip balm but if you have extra money to spend, treat yourself to a pot of this! The lip balm is definitely going to last you a long time and make your lips feel great when they are in need of moisture. :)

Before trying out these products, one of my main concerns was whether someone in their teens or early 20s would be too young to be using these products as they seem to be more for the older age group. I have however found out since then that these are in fact not anti-ageing products, thus can be used be any age groups. My conclusion is that if you don't mind paying the (very) hefty price tags for these products, try them out as they do work great! I also think that the above products are more on the entry level side and are slightly more affordable than other La Mer products such as the Creme de la Mer and therefore are worth trying out before spending a lot more money on other La Mer products! ♡

So... What do you guys think? Would you ever spend £65 on a face exfoliator and £42 on a lip balm? ♡ I think I am going to be saving my money to get myself a tube of the Refining Facial and a pot of the La Mer lip balm to be used on days when I need some extra pampering!

  1. I would definitely not spend that much on products unless I made wayyyy more money. Haha. At least they work well. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼

    1. It does seem crazy to be spending so much money when there are so many great alternatives out there! I think people mostly just enjoy the experience of using expensive skincare products because it makes them feel really pampered haha, even though the price might not actually justify the product itself! xx

  2. Ohh those prices pain me!! It would be interesting if the diamond dust is actually better than a traditional exfoliator. I'm always a bit dubious about really expensive cosmetics as I usually want scientific proof that is worth spending my money on! But if it's a pressie then that's a different story :) x

    1. I agree hehe! I would definitely think twice (maybe even 3 times) before purchasing expensive skincare products that I have never tried out before myself - if they were gifted to me though, it just automatically gives me justification to be using such expensive products haha! The thing about these products is that there isn't really any scientific proof that they are working a whole lot better than their cheaper alternatives (I wonder if it's a little bit of a placebo as well) - but if they make you feel great then it might be worth investing in them! <3 xx
